An early morning flat had me chasing back to the group. Rain at the coast was a surprise. Not the wimpy foggy mist but good honest wet. The sky didn’t clear up until the end which made for a very pleasant evening riding to the finish. My “official” birthday ride, although not on my exact birthday. Foggy in the morning, hot in afternoon, and then back to the deep freeze. Just another typical SFR brevet. Fun to ride with Rupesh Kapoor, Bill Brier Jr., Jasmine WY and Thomas Herget. Getting my legs back slowly. Best 200k this year and hoping to go longer soon.
I went to see the exhibition football (i.e. soccer) game at Levi’s Stadium this evening. It was the Hollywood team, Wrexham vs Chelsea, and also a chance to see a game at this stadium ahead of the World Cup in 2026. The game was entertaining and the final score, a draw, was a fair result.
I started with the Thursday Page Mill crew but I decided to extend my ride by going to Davenport and up Bonny Doon. It’s been a while and I forgot how long it is to get from the coast to Empire Grade. Rode some sweet smooth new pavement down Jamison Creek and then through Big Basin. Started to feel it going up Highway 9. I think I needed more food so I was happy to get a soda at the fire station on Skyline to provide some quick sugar. That helped and was able to finish the ride with some zip in my legs.
Whenever Boots comes by, she’s always quite cute, and always likes head skitches, knowing that it makes Arun jealous.
I returned to Dreamworks for a special whisky tasting event. The local representatives for the Ardbeg distillery stopped by with 10 fine bottles for us to sample. There were some standouts for sure, but all were great to taste.
I took a trip down to Southern California and I drove through Carrizo Plain to check out the flowers. It wasn’t as spectacular as the super bloom of 2019, but there were still some nice flowers to look at.
